Checkmate approached Globex in 2018 with a groundbreaking idea for a new software and data management system that would revolutionize the way that businesses performed routine Health and Safety checks on high-risk assets.  Checkmate’s idea was a world first, so the enabling technology had never been configured in the way Checkmate envisioned.

Globex’s mission was to design and develop a range of devices that would make Checkmate’s vision a reality. The project resulted in the creation of a software platform and mobile app that took paper-based health and safety checks into the Cloud, based on a simple mobile phone-based user interface connected to near-field-device tags called ‘SurTags’. Checkmate’s SurTags are mounted on a wide range of equipment across many different industries and environments. The device may spend its entire useful life outdoors, so UV and weathering stability as well as ensuring clear and accurate safety notifications were critical to the success of the product. Globex also created a range of alternate SurTags for use in special applications from industrial storage racks to vehicles to equipment washdown areas.

Checkmate is now deployed across 150+ sites in New Zealand, is well established in the UK, and is shortly being rolled out in the Australian market. Checkmate’s impressive client list includes New World, PAK'nSAVE, ITM, PlaceMakers, Mitre 10 MEGA, Laminex, Hynds and many more.
