Rex Bionics
Rehab Exoskeleton
Rex Bionics designed and developed a robotic exoskeleton to give wheelchair users the ability to walk for extended periods. This rehabilitation tool has benefits for physical and mental health, and may improve recovery rates. Rex have developed a number of products over the years as the technology has become more sophisticated.
Globex have been involved with Rex Bionics since 2009. The peak of our involvement came with the Rex Rehab model of exoskeleton, for which Globex prepared many of the key subsystems. These included the internal skeleton, composite hip, battery pack, actuator and electronics housings, and various covers.
Because of commercial constraints, the Rex Rehab units had to be ready to be shipped within four months of project kickoff – a very challenging deadline. Globex provided four engineers to work closely on-site with Rex Bionics and their suppliers. Ultimately Globex was able to successfully complete the design and manufacture within this timeframe, with the added assistance of some short machining runs in-house at Globex to increase the capacity of the Rex manufacturing team. This effort ultimately allowed REX to deliver this commercially significant order on schedule.
